I have respect for Discovery World Furniture, I truly do. Although some of their products may fall a bit short, others are more than accommodating with somebody’s needs. This bunk bed tries to do that.
First of all, it has stairs that are deeply desired by every parent searching for bunk beds. Although as comfortable and pleasant stairs can be, not everyone can afford it, especially when it comes with trundle. As you can see it also comes in the white color that is called “Twin Over Full Stair Stepper Bed with Trundle in White Finish”, but you’ll have to purchase it from this separate link.
What I appreciate about these stairs is that they are designed with good thinking. You see, there are a lot of bunk beds with drawers included, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but what they do wrong is they put handles right under the steps, so when your kids climb down, there might be a risk of him accidentally stumbling on an open drawer. Children are often careless so it might become an issue. This bunk bed thought it out by placing drawers on the sides instead so that front is almost exclusively used for walking up.Trundle is something that gives this bunk bed an extra “oomph” to separate itself from other bunk beds of this price range. Trundle is fairly easy to open, and as with every bunk bed, mattresses have to be bought separately. Be aware though that even though they said it accommodates mattresses up to 8 inches, trundle’s max fit size is 6 and a half inches. That information only comes out when you buy this bunk bed so hopefully, they give more directions in the “details” section next time.
Speaking of directions, the assembly is mediocre. By that I mean instructions are not the best but they can be followed if you pay close attention. Luckily, some parts like stairs already come pre-assembled, so all you have to do is build the bunk bed itself. Be careful during that though because as far as I know, it’s soft wood that loves to leave scratches and bumps.
They don’t necessarily say it so I had to guess from their answers. They mentioned it is made of pine (which is generally a softwood) that is furniture grade. Although it might also mean a Brazilian pine (which is hardwood), I’d still put my money on softwood, especially when I heard from customers that dents were easy to leave.
Very pine-like characteristic.
Either way, it doesn’t act like a typical pine bunk bed that shakes a lot but instead has a good design with a nice touch of sturdiness. This bunk bed has been tested with weights up to 400 pounds and it handled it well. Now it doesn’t mean that you can jump on this bed with your whole family but it does give you an idea of how strong it is. 200 pounds max per bunk would be recommended. It also meets ASTM and CPSC standards.
